As Australia’s sustainable finance landscape continues to evolve, the need for reliable ways to assess the environmental performance of investments is becoming increasingly important. The NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria supports this by providing trusted benchmarks for green lending in the built environment.
We’ve worked closely with lenders across the country to develop version two of the Criteria, building on feedback and use since its launch. The updated version includes revised targets, new building sectors, and additional rating types to better reflect the needs of the market.
NABERS also contributed to the development of the Australian Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, with the low carbon benchmarks in the Criteria aligning directly with the NABERS proxies used in the Taxonomy. This alignment improves consistency across the sector, helping investors and lenders make informed and comparable decisions about the sustainability of their assets.
Version 2.0 of the NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria was released in July 2025. | ![]() |
“We’re proud to launch version two of the NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria. Thanks to all the great feedback we’ve received from our stakeholders, version two opens the door to a broader range of building types and sustainability considerations. This will give lenders and investors greater confidence in the sustainability credentials of their assets and investments.”
