NABERS UK

NABERS UK

Launched in November 2020, NABERS UK is currently run by BRE as the scheme administrator. The scheme is overseen by a steering committee comprising BRE, the Better Buildings Partnership and NABERS, on behalf of the New South Wales Government, Australia. The Better Buildings Partnership has been an integral partner in the development of NABERS UK and acts as scheme ambassador to support its uptake and success.

There are currently two product offerings available in the UK for office buildings: Design for Performance to drive energy-efficient new buildings, and NABERS Energy ratings to measure how energy-efficient existing buildings are.

Unlike design-based energy ratings, NABERS UK measures and rates the actual energy use of offices, helping building owners to accurately track and communicate the energy performance of their buildings. It also helps identify areas for savings and improvements. All ratings are carried out by assessors trained in the UK.

NABERS UK Assessor training

The NABERS UK Energy for Offices Assessor training is now available on the NABERS Learn platform. This fully online training course is specifically designed for built environment professionals that have a background in the energy management of office buildings. The training focuses on the NABERS UK rating process and methodology. Course fees include training and exam administration.

NABERS UK has produced the following resources for the Energy for Offices training course:

Scheme administrator update

Expressions of Interest for the NABERS UK Scheme Administrator have now closed.
We are reviewing submissions and will provide an update once a new administrator is appointed.

As announced on 4 September 2023, BRE is stepping down as the scheme administrator for NABERS UK to focus on its BREEAM scheme.

NABERS and BRE are committed to delivering continuity and a smooth transition for NABERS UK stakeholders. As part of this transition, BRE will no longer process new NABERS UK assessor licence applications, Energy for Office project registrations or rating submissions, and new Design for Performance applications after 15 December 2023. There is no impact to projects already registered, BRE will continue to support existing assessors and clients with any project specific enquiries until further notice.

Further details will be published over the coming weeks. To find out more about the NABERS UK administration transition visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page.
