NABERS Carbon Neutral Guidance Document Public Consultation

18 Sep 2023

NABERS is seeking feedback on our Carbon Neutral guidance document through a survey, which is open until 10 October 2023.

In response to an increased number of NABERS Carbon Neutral lodgements each year, NABERS is exploring options to improve our Carbon Neutral offering and expand Carbon Neutral certification to other sectors.

As a result of preliminary stakeholder engagement and feedback received while auditing past Carbon Neutral ratings, NABERS has developed its Carbon Neutral guidance document, which is now open for public consultation.

This document aims to improve the process for NABERS Assessors undertaking Carbon Neutral ratings and includes proposals on topics identified to help Assessors with Carbon Neutral ratings, including:

  • Waste
  • Refrigerants
  • Mixed-use buildings
  • Documented evidence required

To participate in the consultation, please read the NABERS Carbon Neutral guidance document, provide responses in the survey form and send as a word document to nabers@environment.nsw.gov.au by COB Tuesday 10 October 2023.

NABERS asks you to consider:

a. Do you believe the proposals outlined will improve the NABERS Carbon Neutral certification processes and product?

NABERS wants to measure Assessors' sentiment towards the proposed measures and will factor every comment, assessment and judgement before releasing the Carbon Neutral guidance document.

b. Are there any barriers with implementing any of the proposals outlined?

NABERS wants to understand any challenges Assessors are anticipating regarding the proposals outlined. It’s important we know what measures will work to ensure the success of the Carbon Neutral guidance document.

c. Are there building scenarios that would be an exception to the proposed measures?

NABERS aims to cover most building scenarios with the Carbon Neutral guidance document. It’s important for us to review any building scenarios that would be an exception to the proposed measures as part of the consultation process.

d. General feedback

We welcome any additional feedback.
